A krewe (pronounced as "crew" is an organization that puts on a parade and/or a ball during the Carnival Season in New Orleans. They are often elite social clubs, charitable groups, and sometimes just friends who come together to share their love of comedic or fanfic themes. Some krewes are hundreds of years old with elaborate traditions, and others are only a few years old with modern themes. When the first parades marched in 1830s New Orleans, they were compromised of men on horseback, decorated carriages, and flame bearers to provide light. Formal annual galas and balls were quickly added where women were allowed to participate in donned masks and colorful regalia. Today, the feathered, sequined, glittering disguises often use the now-universal Mardi Gras colors originally established by the krewe of the Rex parade in 1872: purple symbolizing justice, green for faith and gold for power. Different krewes may choose unique signature colors and their own themes. Which krewe will you decide to celebrate during Naughty Gras 2025? We can’t wait to see!
