One of the first things I'll hear when I'm drawing in public is something like "ooooohhh! Maybe you can draw me or do something for me!?" or the less polite translated version of "You're probably broke + I can get you to do things for me." Not necessarily bad to hear when I need work. But I'm typically maxed out. On the other hand, there are phenomenal artists like Dirk Hooper with massive experience, and they often can do work better AND faster than I do. So please, commission artists like Dirk Hooper, Brian Vox, and if she's available, Amber Carr. They do great work and need your support!

There's not any other skill I can think of where people would ask you to spend time working for them for free. You wouldn't ask a lawyer, or a dentist, or a car mechanic to do work for free. What is it about art where you get that?
In any case, I sure appreciate the push. I have enough personal projects to keep me busy until the year 3000, but I still have to keep the lights on around here, so I take commissioned work! Every job helps me immensely and gives the commissioner a unique gift they will treasure forever!
